For a long time, writing was weighted lower than maths and logic. That has completely changed. For the 2026 intake, the NSW Department of Education levelled the playing field. The test is split into four equal parts, meaning Writing now accounts for exactly 25% of the final score.
Students have just 30 minutes to read a surprise stimulus and craft a compelling response. Furthermore, because the test is now delivered via the digital Janison platform, handwriting no longer matters—but typing speed does. To write a competitive 300-400 word piece, students need to confidently type at 30-35 words per minute under pressure.

You cannot rely on a pre-memorised story. The 2026 official exam will present a stimulus (an image, a quote, or a statement) and ask for one of three specific formats. Our platform trains students to pivot instantly between:
Crafting engaging stories with a clear focus on "Show, Don't Tell." We teach students to zoom in on small moments and describe physical signs of emotion rather than just writing a sequence of events.
Building a rock-solid argument. We train students to use high-modality vocabulary (strong, definitive words) and clear paragraph structures to convince the marker of their viewpoint.
The "Dinner Party" essay. Often the most confusing text type for Year 6 students, we break down how to thoughtfully explore a topic from multiple angles without aggressively picking a "winner."

Practising essays on an iPad screen or with a pencil will not prepare your child for exam day.
Our exam simulator provides a distraction-free, timed digital interface that mirrors the real test environment. Your child will get comfortable planning, typing, and editing their work using a real keyboard while watching the 30-minute countdown timer.
Don't wait weeks for a tutor to mark an essay. GoTestPrep provides immediate, comprehensive feedback for writing responses. Your child receives instant scoring that highlights exactly where their structure, vocabulary, or emotional intelligence can be improved before their next attempt.

We take the mystery out of the hardest question types. If a student is asked to write a discursive piece on technology, they shouldn't just argue that "technology is bad." We teach a proven, balanced structure:
Hook the reader and acknowledge the issue is complex.
Discuss the benefits using strong observations (e.g., global connection).
Pivot smoothly to the drawbacks (e.g., loss of privacy or isolation).
Connect the broader topic to a relatable, real-world observation.
End with a thought-provoking summary or a rhetorical question, proving emotional maturity to the markers.
